What do I receive with my laptop?
All laptops come ready to use with all the accessories listed in the description. You may wish to purchase additional items but this is a matter of choice and not necessity for using the laptop. All laptops come with the power adapter unless otherwise stated.
Is there an operating system?
Yes, all Laptops have an operating system preloaded unless otherwise stated.
Does the laptop come with a restore/recovery disk Most laptops/netbooks when new do not have restore disks as the restore files are kept on a restore partition (part of the hard drive), for data protection reasons this is wiped during the refurbishment process and therefore we cannot provide restore disks with the product, you may be able to obtain restore/recovery disks by contacting the product manufacturer.
Does it come with MS Office, Excel, Word, or Powerpoint?
Our laptops come with the operating system they are licenced for preloaded, MS Office (which includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint) requires its own licence and therefore we cannot provide this installed, even new laptops that advertise that they come with Office usually only come with a 'trial version' which needs to be paid for, there are several free to download MS Office comptible Office suites available (such as Open Office).
How good is the laptop battery?
All used batteries provide a charge but we cannot say for how long and it does depend on how the laptop is used, for example watching a dvd film will run the battery down a lot faster than typing a document. New batteries should last for approximately 2 hours. Batteries are consumables so cannot be guaranteed to provide the same performance once they have been used. We need to be notified within 14 of receiving the laptop about any battery issues as after this we cannot offer any warranty on used batteries.
Are all the laptops wi-fi (wireless) internet ready?
Most of our laptops are wi-fi enabled but please check the listed specification to confirm if they have wireless. For laptops that do not have wireless there is an upgrade addition which can be selected so that they will be supplied with a wireless card. You still need to have a wireless router at home and an a Internet provider to get online.
How soon is my order dispatched?
Normally sooner but please allow up to 5 working days. If you require your order sooner please contact us to confirm delivery date. Orders being sent outside of the UK may take longer to arrive.
How is it sent to me?
All UK orders over £100 will cost £9.95, orders under £100 cost £7.95, and will be sent using Parcel Force courier. This is an insured courier service. Orders being sent outside of the UK mainland may be sent using DHL, Royal Mail, this also applys to small items within the UK.
Where can my order be sent to? We can deliver to any address with a UK postcode. We also deliver to most EU countries.
What accessories do I need?
We can supply almost any laptop accessory. Browse our website for your choice.
How Can I Pay?
We accept all major credit cards and debit cards, business cheques, BACS and electronic transfer. Goods will not be dispatched until cleared funds are available. Allow up to 7 days for BACS and Electronic Transfers to clear.
What warranty will I receive?
New and factory refurbished cheap laptops come with the manufacturer’s stated warranty. Used laptops come with 6 months warranty (this can be upgraded to 1 year for an additional cost of £29.95). All warranties are return to base unless otherwise stated. The customer is responsible for the cost of returning the goods to ourselves and must ensure that appropriate packaging is used. Batteries in refurbished items are not covered as they are classed as consumables, a faulty battery must be returned within 14 days of receipt. Portable IT Ltd are not responsible for any data that is lost due to failure of the product and recommend regular data back ups.
Can I get my laptop repaired when the warranty runs out?
The laptop centre deals in branded laptops which helps to ensure that replacement parts are obtainable. A full repair service is available and our trained technicians will advise as to the cost effectiveness of the repair before undertaking any work.
Is there adequate after sales service?
We offer a 14 day no quibble returns service, should you find the laptop you have purchased in unsuitable. Our trained technicians will give telephone help and advice on technical matters. For day to day operating queries where no fault is involved, we recommend that novice users enlist the help of a knowledgeable friend or relative.
Do we buy laptops from the public? Unfortunately for security reasons we cannot buy laptops from the the general public.
Do we have a shop or showroom? We are based in a business unit and unfortunately have no facilities to view the laptops on site, collections are welcome by appointment only.
IBM Password removal Service
We can now remove the power on passwords and supervisor passwords on IBM laptops
In some cases, when a Supervisor password is set, the Hard Disk password is also automatically set.In this case, we can sometimes
remove the hard disk password as well, but in many cases it is easier and cheaper to replace the drive.
